Measuring Metrics & Beating Goals

Design leadership isn’t just about attracting great talent and keeping them around, but what you help empower them to achieve. Here is a list of accomplishments my teams have had over the years because of the clear communication about mission and expectations I was able to provide.

What is being results driven?

A results-driven culture means that our primary focus is on achieving tangible outcomes and meeting strategic objectives. I measure my own success by assessing the impact of my design leadership on key performance indicators, such as user satisfaction, product adoption, and revenue growth. Ultimately, my success is defined by the positive influence I have on the bottom line while maintaining a high standard of design quality.

I use qualitative and quantitative data that is available to measure my team efficiency and performance regularly. Some quant examples are Design Story-Cycle Time and design QA process time. I gather qual data from efforts like 360 interviews with stakeholders and peers and 1:1s with reports and their teammates.

Below are goals I have focused on that have made impacts at companies I have worked for.

Two-Sided Marketplace Growth

  • 20% y/y revenue growth

  • 30% y/y growth in marketplace leads

  • Launch of vendor-facing ReactNative app (4.9 stars, 1.3k ratings)

Design System Performance

  • Reorganized Union Design System (The Knot) from a federation to a product-run format.

  • Oversaw strategy and defined governance processes design system work prioritization and contributions.

  • Directed the launch of the new Union design system in 2019 and it’s continued evolution until 2021.

  • Directed and helped launched Zest Design System (Order.co) in 2023 to internal teams to solve for design and engineering efficiency gains along with customer experience cohesion.

Team Efficiency

  • Implemented the ability to measure design story cycle time to measure the length of time it takes for design to begin it’s discovery process to the point of delivering engineering ready designs for implementation.

  • Measuring the process of design QA and the cycle time of stories process through QA to production ready.

  • Refining UX Research deliverables and the enablement of product teams to make quick decisions based off generative and evaluative research, both qualitative and qualitative.
